The Host 괴물 (Bong Joon-ho 봉준호, 2006) – June 19th

After his EPIC Palme d’Or win at Cannes this year, the Downtown Independent knew that the only appropriate thing to do was to keep the Bong Joon-ho party going and show some of his previous work…in 35mm!!

We are THRILLED to announce that we will be playing one of Bong Joon-ho’s most legendary films- his (perhaps literally?) groundbreaking monster movie, The Host 괴물Visually bombastic, exciting and as socially critical as the rest of his work, this is one of his top films that should NOT be missed on the big screen. I mean- who wants to miss out on GIGANTIC mutant creatures on 35mm, right??

And for reference, The Host also stars Song Kang-ho, star of Parasite, Bong Joon-ho recently Cannes-acclaimed film as well as Memories of Murder and others…

Seeing this with an audience and on a big screen is an experience like nothing else. There may be Godzillas out there and Marvel superheroes right now, but The Host 괴물 is Bong Joon-ho’s filmic take on Korea, humanity, government corruption, and….what/who creates real monsters.

Barking Dogs Never Bite 플란다스의 개 (Bong Joon-ho 봉준호, 2000) – June 19th

After his EPIC Palme d’Or win at Cannes this year, the Downtown Independent knew that the only appropriate thing to do was to keep the Bong Joon-ho party going and show some of his previous work…in 35mm!!

We are THRILLED to announce that we will be playing Bong Joon-ho’s directorial debut, Barking Dogs Never Bite 플란다스의 개 , a dark comedy about a young man who gets, perhaps, a little too upset at the behavior of the dogs in his apartment complex and a neighbor who plays detective to the goings-on…

Fun Fact: Barking Dogs Never Bite 플란다스의 개 features actors like Kim Roi-ha 김뢰하 and Byun Hee-bong 변인철 who both make future appearances in other Bong Joon-ho films!!

Yes, this film is eccentric. Yes, this film might be a little rough on animal-lovers. If that is you, we suggest the other Bong Joon-ho film we are playing…a ground-breaking and TOTALLY fabulous monster movie!

This rarely screened film is extremely funny, socially critical and totally brilliant in a way that only Bong Joon-ho is and can be. Not to be missed, especially in 35mm!!

Get your tix NOW– don’t miss the opportunity to see these films on the big screen in 35mm!!!!
