The Fog (John Carpenter, 1980) – 4K restoration- May 16th

There are film restorations and then there are John Carpenter Film Restorations.

Most of Carpenter’s films have remained available to see in movie theaters over the years. But not The Fog (1980). Released two years after the world was rocked by the entrance of Halloween, Carpenter’s gory ghost story about ship wrecks, greed and vengeance became a big-screen rarity. Unable to be shown due to poor 35mm print quality, The Fog became one of Carpenter’s more precious theatrical titles.

Thankfully, StudioCanal and Rialto have done an excellent job on this 4K restoration and the Downtown Independent is beyond excited about being able to play this film in Los Angeles!

With a epically strong (and female-centered) cast that includes Scream Queen mother-and-daughter team Janet Leigh and Jamie Lee Curtis and Carpenter Classic Adrienne Barbeau, The Fog is also delightfully refreshing in its offering of strong and exciting women-in-horror characters, to say nothing of producer Debra Hill’s own work (par for the course in the Carpenter-scape).

Please join us for this exceptional 4K restoration made from the original camera negative, with color grading approved by the film’s cinematographer, Dean Cundey.

Must be seen to be believed!!!
