Locarno in Los Angeles – February 13th-16th

An unprecedented collaboration between Acropolis Cinema and the Locarno Film Festival, the fourth annual Locarno Festival in Los Angeles returns in 2020 to the Downtown Independent cinema, home of the festival’s first two editions. Running from February 13-16, the festival will present a special four-day program following three successful editions from 2017-2019.

Island of the Hungry Ghosts – January 4th, 7pm

While the yearly crab migration takes place and locals perform rituals for ghosts, a therapist works in Christmas Island’s asylum seeker detention center.

This film has recently been honored by an Independent Spirit Awards nomination and this is a one time only special screening to be followed by a Q&A with the film’s director.

Showing at 7 PM on Saturday, 1/4
